With the demand for homes in London on the rise, housebuilder Redrow has launched a new Southern division, covering Surrey and East & West Sussex, which will sit separately to the Southern Counties and South-East regions. Redrow hope to deliver 600 new homes a year through the new region, which in turn will create close to 2,000 local jobs and this will be led by the recently appointed MD, Rod Martin who was previously the Divisional MD at Taylor Wimpey.
Statistics have shown that 44% of survey respondents viewed outdoor space as their “biggest priority” in a house move and 32% would prioritise floor space.
Matthew Pratt, Redrow’s group ceo, said: “London’s commuter belt has been a key growth area for us in recent years, evidenced by the launch of our Thames Valley division in 2018. Now, in the wake of the pandemic, the trend has been accelerated with an increasing number of people seeking more space both inside and outside of the home.
Redrow also referred to the latest government figures, showing that in Surrey and Sussex sales transactions have increased by 26% and 14% respectively year-on-year. Furthermore, the latest government figures show that Surrey & Sussex sales transactions have increases by 26% and 14% year-on-year.
“Redrow already has a very successful presence in the South East, including across Berkshire, Hampshire, Kent and West Sussex so it makes sense to expand our operations in line with customer demand. With Rod’s deep experience of Surrey and Sussex’s residential housing markets, we look forward to making our mark in this area and providing more high quality new homes for local people.”
Rod Martin commented: “I am thrilled to be joining the ambitious team at Redrow and am looking forward to building out Redrow’s operations in a region of significant growth.”
