Major Housing Schemes Advance Across the UK

A wave of major housing developments is gaining momentum across the UK, with landmark regeneration schemes and community-led projects set to deliver thousands of new homes from East London to Devon.

£800m Teviot Estate Plan Approved

The Hill Group and housing association Poplar HARCA have received a resolution to grant planning permission for the £800m transformation of the Teviot Estate in Poplar, East London.

Due to deliver 1,928 new homes the redevelopment will be spread out over four phases and include community facilities, public spaces and a fully relandscaped Langdon Park.

Including a new mosque the project will provide significant investment in local infrastructure.

Starting on site next year, the first phase will be delivering 475 new homes with first completions expected by 2028.

Designed by architects BPTW, the masterplan spans eight hectares and includes a mix of studios, apartments and family homes.

Andy Hill, Founder and Group Chief Executive of The Hill Group, said: “This is a landmark moment for Teviot and a major step forward in delivering lasting change for the community.”

GRAHAM has been named the main contractor for the £110 million transformation of the former Boddingtons Brewery site in central Manchester.

Construction is set to begin this summer, following Gateway 2 approval under the Building Safety Act, secured by Latimer, the development arm of Clarion Housing Group.

Located on a 1.25-acre brownfield site next to the Manchester College digital and creative campus, the project will deliver 505 new mixed-tenure homes, forming a vibrant new residential community.

The design pays tribute to the area’s industrial heritage, featuring traditional brick façades, aluminium windows, and Juliet balconies that blend modern living with historic character.

Richard Cook, Chief Development Officer at Clarion Housing Group, said: “We’re delighted to be working once again with GRAHAM to bring this landmark project to life.”

Housing association Aster Group is on course to exceed the delivery of 200 Community Land Trust (CLT) homes, following a series of recent contract exchanges across multiple schemes.

The most recent project is a 27-home, energy-efficient development in Arundel, West Sussex and marks a major milestone for both Aster and the town, representing the largest addition to its affordable housing stock in decades.

Aster has also recently broken ground on several other key Community Land Trust projects, including a 39-home scheme with Transition Homes CLT in Devon, featuring all homes rated EPC A for energy efficiency. In Gloucester, work is underway on 12 affordable homes in partnership with Longhope CLT. Later this year, construction is set to begin on a further 10 affordable homes with Chawleigh CLT, also in Devon.

Meanwhile, East Boro, part of the Aster Group, has completed and handed over the first three of nine homes on Portland’s first-ever CLT development, also built to high energy-efficiency standards.

These new additions bring the total number of CLT homes delivered or currently underway by Aster and its CLT partners to 244 — the most delivered by any housing association in the UK. This achievement, Aster says, firmly positions the organisation as the nation’s leading provider of Community Land Trust partnerships.
